《Chasing Khmer in Sandy Wind》の Driver

Five gals in a foreign place, fortunately we met our nice nice driver, bringing us shuttling on the busy road. Thanks to our team leader, J who found him on the net. His name is Pete, our English speaking Tuk-Tuk driver. Here’s the leng chai photo!

On the right is Pete. The other tanned guy is Pete’s brother-in-law, Neang! Here we let them in-charging our transportation. Pete is a shy and gentle guy, even when he was talking, his face seems blushed. In contrary, Neang love to talk. Sometimes, he will show us his mandarin speaking. Quite a funny guy ~

Personally, I prefer Pete. This gentleman is a business graduate who impressed me at very first I heard about him from J. He worked in this field before, but due to their difficult life without any help from government, he decided to choose this job as a driver at Siem Reap. To them, “driver” is the most money making job in Siem Reap, a place packed with tourist. A married man, everyday bringing the tourists from one place to another, regardless himself exposing under sun and rain. Day by day, Pete was getting used to his job, and even treating his job as an interest.

He told us his dream. He said, when he was young, he dreamed to travel around the world, experiencing the different culture of the world. Now, his dream has HALFLY come true. “Why?”, I asked myself. He continued, “Because now the people from all over the world come to Siem Reap. As a driver, I have chance to meet with them, and get to know their cultures from them.” Oh my god, it was touching. Don’t ask me why I was, but in deep of my heart, I was.

Now, Pete only has Tuk-Tuk. To expand his earning power, he hopes to get a car soon. Like that, we travelled around by his Tuk-Tuk in 4 days and there is one day we travelled by car as the location is too far away for us to take Tuk-Tuk. He introduced us his friend to become our car driver.

J helped us to get a better price for the transportation. Since we have 5 person, we asked for 2 Tuk-Tuk per day. Basically, he charged us USD 24 for 2 Tuk-Tuk per day, and USD 30 for a car per day. For the 1st day we reached, he only charged us USD 10 since it is only half day.

Let me count for each person’s transportation fee ar !
Day 1 – USD 10 (By Tuk-Tuk)
Day 2 – USD 24 (By Tuk-Tuk)
Day 3 – USD 30 (By Car)
Day 4 – USD 24 (By Tuk-Tuk)
Day 5 – Free to Airport
Total = USD 88 / 5 person = USD 17.60

Good price? Reasonable la hor..

Within these days getting along, plus his sincere service, all of us have a HEART to help out Pete. Back from Siem Reap, we also received his email, full with words of gratitude. Hence, we also recommend his Tuk-Tuk service on those forums, hoping to help him to get more customers.

Here, I would love to wish him and his family to have a prospective life in the future.
